When my soul meets and connects to another soul something happens. The world looks different. It is brighter, it becomes more comfortable, more safe and open. Things that terrified me in the past somehow become easier.

When my soul meets another soul in this manner, my capabilities sky rocket because I have chosen to take away the limitations that I use to protect not only my soul but also my heart and instead I use that energy to connect and grow with another soul.

Together we conquer so much more than I want to conquer alone.

Maybe there’s a God up there pulling our strings to cause us to run into the kind of souls we search for our whole life. Or maybe its fate that you made the billions of decisions that led you to take that job which would eventually lead you to meet that person and make that connection.

I’m not sure what I believe, but what I am sure of is that the only way to connect with another soul in that way, the kind of way that makes the world look different, is to be open to it. I can’t be in denial that those types of connections exist.

I read a book recently about creativity and living without fear. In this book the author described inspiration in such a way that made me believe inspirations are tangible things. Things that float among our world searching for a human who is open minded and willing to commit themselves to that inspiration.

The author goes on to describe how if a human gets hit with one of these inspirations and isn’t ready for it or willing to commit to seeing it through the inspiration will eventually leave in search of another open mind that will care for it in the way it deserves.

The more I think about this the more I believe our souls might be doing the same thing. They are constantly searching for another soul to connect with… to grow with and to become better because of that other soul.

If the other soul, the other person, isn’t open to finding or connecting then your soul will move on. You may connect in small ways but when your soul, extremely hungry for the real kind of connection, isn’t fed it eventually gets distracted. It goes looking for a sincere connection.

To experience a sincere connection one must first be willing and open to it. I have noticed I am much more open to making this kind of connection in a non-romantic sense. My own self-awareness tells me that is probably true because the amount of fear going into a platonic connection like that is much less then connecting to someone’s soul and heart in a romantic sense.

I have been inspired lately by two individuals whose souls I have connected to and through these connections they have shown me that what I used to believe only existed in movies is real.

The first individual connected to me in a platonic way. They showed me what loving all humans, with no judgment and no fear of what they could do to you, really looks like. They opened my eyes to a kind of connection where I could teach them and they could teach me.

This type of connection doesn’t mean agreement on all things, all the time. What it is to me is a mutual respect for the other person’s soul and therefore, their point of view.

The second inspiration came to me when I was least expecting it (my favorite kind of inspiration). This person showed me that no matter how long you have been serving everyone else in your life, when you are ready you will put your happiness first. To be honest this wasn’t a new lesson. Even when others may not always understand the things that make me happy I have still chosen my soul over conforming to their viewpoints or trying to explain myself.

So this second inspiration showed me two things: 1. How blessed I am to have found my happiness with this much clarity before life got even more complicated. 2. How much courage it takes to live at choice.

I speak so much about choice, and how easy choice is, but what I have come to see is that yes it can be easy, but more often than not it is scary as hell.

Choosing, consciously something different from the choices you have always made is scary. I had taken this for granted, risking it all repeatedly in the hunt for my happiness.

So this soul that inspired me, connected to mine, and made the world brighter, more comfortable, and safer has shown me that choice is scary but it is our courage that makes choice so powerful.

When you are open to connecting on a very deep level with another soul, really letting them in and showing the who you are is my new favorite tool to my own personal growth. It is through these connections that I look for and allow that I learn the lessons that will make me an even better coach, leader, and most importantly an even happier human.
